In the review of own and literature data, it was shown that lectins (carbohydrate/glycoconjugate recognizing proteins and peptides of non-immunoglobulin nature) are distributed, organized and function in organism as systems. On the example of human complement system and other recognition systems, summarized system of lectin components and participants of cascades is described, and general principles of its organization, functioning and evolution are formulated. Any recognition system is developed in evolution and function also as lectin systems. Relationships of lectin – carbohydrate/glycoconjugate interactions of different recognition systems in human superorganism are shown. Conceptions on lectin – glycoconjugate systems are perspective for evaluation of lectin and glycome potentials, developments of new glycoimmunological protection technologies in practical medicine and medical biotechnology.
